We're on it!

Circular Packaging

Reusing packaging materials again and again without any loss of quality is what is known as the cradle-to-cradle principle. That is exactly what we are working to achieve. with the clear aim of optimally balancing product protection, environmental footprint and profitability.

Making smart use of different varieties of materials

Depending on the product, using different materials may be the right solution, such as paper, monoplastic, metal, biodegradable plastic, bioplastic, or another bio-based material. Product innovations like concentrates or products converted from liquid to solid also offer opportunities for climate-friendly packaging concepts. There are multiple possibilities - our modular solutions provide the correct answer for every packaging concept, right up to turnkey solutions.

From the concept to the store

We accompany you on the journey to the packaging of the future, right from brainstorming to the finished product in stores. We assist you in producing samples, carrying out tests under near-production conditions, and in converting your production processes. Together with our network partners, if you wish, we can even help you set up new supply chains for the best materials. Let's get it packaged!

Working together for sustainable paper packaging

What is the best, most environmentally friendly way of using paper as packaging, without compromising on protecting the product? To discover this, we are thinking far beyond our own stage in the value chain.

An example of this is the development partnership between Optima and Voith. Interdisciplinary project teams have been set up in both companies to do in-depth work together, looking at new solutions. We are also focusing on product groups where paper packaging was previously considered to be unfeasible. This is the first time that two companies at different stages in the value chain have worked together to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic packaging.

Voith and Optima share a similar company DNA. In many areas, we see untapped potential for paper packaging and are look forward to working closely on it.

There's no contradiction between
Packaging and sustainability

Frequently, packaging is often at the center of debates, but this is not always justified. Packaging is much more than just pretty wrappings. It effectively protects sensitive products from spoilage, and makes them durable, manageable and traceable. This is particularly important when it comes to food, because it makes an important contribution to feeding the world's growing population. Avoiding food waste also reduces the global climate footprint by eight percent. But only a small part of packaged food's carbonfootprint can be attributed to packaging, so it pays to look at it closely.

Packaging protects essential products from perishing
Avoiding food waste helps reduce carbon-dioxide
Only around 3.5 % of a product's carbon footprint is due to the packaging
