Packaging Valley members visit Optima logistics center

More than 25 representatives of member companies of Packaging Valley Germany e.V. took the opportunity to visit the new logistics center of OPTIMA materials management GmbH on October 23. Hans Bühler, managing partner of Optima, welcomed the guests, who meet regularly to exchange knowledge at friendly companies.

Heiko Funk, Managing Director of OPTIMA materials management GmbH, presented in an entertaining documentary the development of the Optima logistics center as well as the new building itself with an area of 6,000 square meters. After a long, intensive planning phase, the employees manage around 1,000 incoming goods per day thanks to the latest technologies. And they do this in an average of 60 seconds per process. There is space for 3,000 pallets and around 125 spare parts deliveries leave the logistics center every day. The modern infrastructure ensures short distances, efficient and automated processes, and fast spare parts deliveries.

Heiko Funk, Managing Director of OPTIMA materials management GmbH, presents the most important key figures about the logistics center. For example, it only takes 60 seconds to retrieve a part from the automatic small parts warehouse.

Important key figures are displayed on large screens for the employees of the logistics center, which optimizes efficiency.

State-of-the-art warehouse infrastructure

Among other things, this is supported by systems with transparent key figures and visualization by means of large screens. The control station has a workload control cockpit and prioritization of the various case classes. These and other measures ensure efficient job control. Visitors were able to get an idea of these new achievements and the automated high-bay warehouse on site during the tour.

Great interest in logistics processes

The questions and discussions of the guests reflected the great interest that is paid to logistics operations these days. Everyone agreed that a successful company today can no longer afford to leave resources unused in this area. The availability of parts in all areas at the right time is a major contributor to economic success. This is certainly also due to growth. Whereas in the past "shouts" and the knowledge of individuals were successful, today it is a matter of ensuring availability - at all times and throughout the entire value chain.

Over an evening snack in the canteen, the members discussed many other topics. Once again, it became clear that Packaging Valley is a valuable network that offers benefits to all participants and provides insights into other companies.
