Optima continues its global success story: In 2024, the family-owned technology leader achieved record growth and expanded its workforce to 3,400 employees. With strong demand especially in the pharmaceutical sectors, Optima is accelerating international expansion and investing heavily in infrastructure, innovation, and talent development.

The Optima Packaging Group – leading German technology innovator in advanced filling and packaging solutions – delivered a record-breaking performance in 2024, generating 800 million euros in revenue – a 20 percent increase – and expanding its global workforce to 3,400 employees. As a family-owned company, Optima is accelerating its international expansion, investing strategically to speed up project delivery, drive innovation, and get even closer to its customers worldwide.

“2024 has once again demonstrated how crucial strong partnerships and open dialogue with our customers are,” says Hans Buehler, Managing Partner of the Optima Packaging Group. “Our strategy is built on long-term trust, technological excellence, and a continuous drive to improve.”

Strong Demand in the Pharma Sector
In the pharmaceutical sector, demand remains particularly high for turnkey filling and packaging systems, especially those incorporating isolators and lyophilizers. Optima is responding by expanding capacities at key sites, supported by new locations and additional skilled personnel worldwide. “Our customers' trust motivates and drives us,” says Stefan Koenig, CEO of the Optima Packaging Group. “We are expanding our infrastructure and teams globally to meet growing demand and deliver projects with even greater efficiency and reliability.”

Innovation through Partnership
The Consumer segment has also grown substantially, driven by rising demand for the development of sustainable product- and packaging-solutions. In light of rising consumer awareness, commitments to less plastics and upcoming European Union packaging regulations (PPWR), many customers are increasingly seeking Optima’s support in developing innovative and eco-friendly solutions. “We position ourselves not just as a machine supplier, but as a strategic partner – working alongside our customers to develop innovative, future-proof concepts that balance resource conservation and economic requirements,” Koenig emphasizes.

Hygiene Packaging Rebounds – Hydrogen Sector Remains Hesitant
After some challenging years, packaging technology for hygiene products has recovered significantly. This has once again made it possible to implement innovations and exciting development projects. In addition, key projects for applications in the hydrogen sector were successfully delivered. Overall, however, this segment is developing rather cautiously, as the political momentum worldwide has so far been insufficient.

International Investment
Optima has significantly strengthened its presence in the United States by hiring more than 60 new employees at the locations in Green Bay, Raleigh and the new facility in Puerto Rico. An additional Midwest location is planned for 2025. These steps are part of a long-term strategy to improve response times and provide localized expert services. “By expanding our capacities and strengthening our teams, we’re building the foundation for professional project execution and local life-time support for the installed equipment,” Koenig adds.

Training for customers and employees on high-tech machinery
In line with its commitment to developing top talent, Optima has launched a new state-of-the-art training center at its headquarters in Schwaebisch Hall — one of the largest facilities of its kind in the region. “Our new training center reflects our strong commitment to building the next generation of skilled professionals,” says Katja Schrafft, Head of Human Resources. In addition, OPTIMA has expanded its training programs for customers and new employees, ensuring the specialized expertise required to construct and operate its high-tech systems.

Sustainability Commitment
Sustainability is a key priority for Optima and its customers. The company pursues ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions across its entire value chain. Since 2022, Optima has been working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to implement validated climate goals. In April 2025, Optima was awarded the highest EcoVadis Platinum rating, placing it among the top 1% of companies in its sector worldwide.

Outlook 2025
Despite ongoing global economic uncertainties, Optima remains optimistic for 2025. The company progresses through with a strong order backlog, robust international teams, and a clear focus on flexibility, customer success, and strategic investments. “We are well-positioned to continue strengthening our role as a trusted and innovative partner worldwide,” Koenig concludes.
