Optima acquires a share in the Swedish company PulPac and strengthens a promising alliance for fiber-based packaging technologies. The focus is on the industrial implementation of dry molded fiber technology as a replacement for plastic packaging.
Optima's investment in PulPac underlines its long-term commitment to technological innovation and responsible packaging solutions - all in the spirit of a sustainable circular economy. The company is working to offer its customers a comprehensive range of fiber-based technologies to replace plastic packaging. The range already includes the molding of cardboard for cups and cans as well as the molding of paper, for example for portion packs and refill applications. Dry Molded Fiber technology is not only suitable for sophisticated products with product protection, but also for food service applications and technical packaging. The technology also offers advantages for reducing packaging production costs.
“The increasing demand for environmentally friendly packaging requires new technological approaches,” says Dr. Stefan König, CEO of the Optima Group. “Through our close collaboration with PulPac, we are bringing sustainable packaging alternatives to market faster - creating tangible solutions for brands, consumers and the environment. Our previous development work on machine solutions for dry molded fiber shows the potential of this technology.”
Minimum resource consumption, maximum quality
The investment marks a milestone in the cooperation that was announced in September 2024. Since then, PulPac and Optima have been working together on the development of complete solutions for dry molded fiber - from shaping to barrier application and, optionally, filling to final packaging.
“Over the past year, we have made great progress with our technology, expanding its scope and creating new opportunities that have attracted major players looking for scalable, environmentally friendly solutions for further packaging categories,” says Linus Larsson Green, CEO of PulPac. “With Optima and the Swiss company SIG as new shareholders, we gain additional strength to meet this demand.”
PulPac's dry molded fiber technology enables the industrial production of fiber-based packaging with minimal resource consumption - without compromising on quality or efficiency. For Optima, this is a key component in offering customers worldwide resource-saving and economically attractive alternatives to plastic packaging.
