Household cleaners are part of the everyday lives of millions of people worldwide. Today, end consumer expectations go far beyond pure cleaning performance. Products in different variants, practical sizes, and diverse consistencies are in demand – whether liquid, viscous, powdery, fine-grained or even chunky. At the same time, alternative packaging solutions to classic plastic packaging are becoming increasingly important.
For manufacturers, this is a complex task: They must react quickly to changing market trends, implement new product shapes, and ensure efficient processes. Modular machine concepts offer exactly the flexibility that is required for this.
In the following interview, expert Markus Urich explains how the market for household cleaners is developing, and what opportunities this creates.
The variety is enormous: from detergents and cleaning agents to dishwashing products, room fragrances, and special solutions like stain removers. Detergents alone account for almost half of the total market. Meanwhile, the industry is developing rapidly. In addition to classic detergents and cleaning agents, new product shapes and packaging solutions are also gaining importance. Manufacturers must not only be able to process different consistencies but also offer packaging that meets consumer expectations. These include other features that also influence buying decisions: easy to open, resealable, ergonomically designed, and visually appealing.
Large corporations are driving innovation in two directions: new product concepts and alternative packaging solutions. For example, household cleaners in solid form, which are easier to transport, and cause less CO2. Such approaches open new possibilities not only for household cleaners, but also for other product categories including cosmetics or personal care products.
When involved in the development processes at an early stage, we can work with our customers to create solutions that will shape the market in the long term. With modular machine concepts, precise dosing technology, and flexible packaging systems, we already cover all product forms, from liquid to powdery. This is complemented by fiber-based packaging technologies that reduce plastic and open new avenues for the circular economy. This allows manufacturers to design their production processes efficiently while responding to new market demands.
