Technical Sales Manager

Job Summary

With locations and customers all over the world, Optima Machinery Corporation designs and builds packaging and filling machines including complete production lines for pharmaceutical, consumer, nonwovens and life science products. Our machines specialize in a variety of products and processes including, syringes, vials, freeze drying, toilet paper, wet wipes, chemicals, cosmetics, coffee, snack foods, transdermal patches, oral filmstrips, and more. Odds are that you have encountered many products packaged on an Optima machine.

Due to continued growth and increasing market acceptance, Optima Machinery Corporation’s (Optima Pharma) is looking for an experienced, successful, and professional technical sales manager for the North East part of the US.
We are seeking someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, passion for sales and a proven track record of accomplishment, who takes a professional approach in developing business opportunities and building long term relationships at all levels.  In this key position, you will work closely with the individual business units within the Optima Pharma technical sales and project management teams.  We are looking for a pro-active, organized, self-motivated, efficient personality with experience in managing parallel activities and setting priorities.  You will receive comprehensive training in the US and at our facilities in Germany and become part of a highly successful, professional, growing team with healthy business ethics and a caring culture.  This position reports directly to the Director of Sales of Optima Machinery Corporation.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop, manage and execute account sales plans and drive growth in a rapidly expanding and highly technical market space
  • Generate leads through participation in trade shows and conferences, and through your network
  • Develop opportunities through early involvement and solution consulting
  • Establish and maintain industry relationships on all levels, assess market competition and develop new business within applicable markets.
  • Individual must develop a thorough understanding of core competencies & technologies in order to sell and develop strategies for the application of new and innovative technologies
  • Understand and map out key decision makers and the buying process
  • Deliver technical presentations to customers at all levels (supported by technical experts as needed), proposal presentations and contract negotiations
  • Attend relevant trade shows (both domestic and international)
  • Manage RFI / RFQ responses and timelines
  • Position requires up to 50%+ travel (both domestic & international)

Qualifications and Skills

  • 7+ years of successful experience in capital equipment sales environment ideally in pharma, consistently meeting targets
  • BS/MS in engineering, business administration or a related field
  • Experience selling million dollar capital equipment solutions
  • Experience in working with decision makers at all levels and large organizations
  • Proven ability to develop long term strategic relationships with key decision-makers
  • Proven ability to navigate large organizations and their buying processes
  • Demonstrated ability to define and operationalize sales
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills including prioritizing, scheduling, time management, and meeting deadlines; detail oriented
  • Ability to work effectively in a home-based environment
  • Comfortable working within an international matrix organization  
  • Committed to continuous education through workshops, seminars and conferences
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all organization levels
  • Personality traits and character attributes to include a strong propensity for technical sales
  • Strong skills in negotiation and closing deals
