Senior Service Technician - Freeze Dryers

Job Summary

With locations and customers all over the world, Optima Machinery Corporation designs and builds packaging and filling machines including complete production lines for pharmaceutical, consumer, nonwovens and life science products. Our machines specialize in a variety of products and processes including, syringes, vials, freeze drying, toilet paper, wet wipes, chemicals, cosmetics, coffee, snack foods, transdermal patches, oral filmstrips, and more. The Senior Service Technician position performs advanced service and maintenance on Freeze Dryer equipment for the pharma division of Optima.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Onside/Production support
  • Troubleshooting – Collect information, share and solve together with SME in Germany
  • Large changes and upgrades/improvement
  • Inspection/maintenance/calibrations
  • Support move in and startup of equipment
  • Support during commissioning phase
  • Perform customer training on equipment
  • Troubleshooting: disaster recovery and solve problems on their own
  • Documentation of all performed tasks

Qualifications and Skills

  • Providing production support to customers who already own Optima equipment, which can require time of on-site work to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, cooling, operation and software failures and errors. To perform this duty it requires:
    • Technical understanding of the line and sterile environment, know how about operating the line, understanding of pharma processes
    • Basic level of knowledge in Optima’s processes or procedures
  • Executing simple modifications, either to repair customers’ equipment or to upgrade based on engineering developments. This requires:
    • Technical understanding of the equipment and the impact of change in a sterile environment and under consideration of the pharma change control procedures
  • Perform Life cycle activities
    • Knowing Maintenance procedures: inspection, preventative maintenance –important is the technical know-how to understand which functions are doing what and how to set up after maintenance to keep the Freeze Dryer at the validated status
  • Support of German Technicians during move in, installation and commissioning of Freeze Dryers in a clean room environment
  • Analyzing customer’s production and quickly provide solutions that will increase levels of production in a cost-effective manner for the customer
    • Special knowledge for parameters and possibilities for reset and disaster recovery is needed
  • Training the Customers’’ personnel in both electrical and mechanical aspects of the machinery, which requires:           
    • Technical knowhow and functionality of the equipment
    • This duty also requires an advanced level of knowledge in Optima’ processes or procedures, including using the Optima training modules
  • Perform move in, installation and commissioning of a Freeze Dryer alone
 
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities


Work Environment
This job operates in a production environment of a customer site.  Adhering to the safety measures of the customer’s plant and working both independently as well as a team effort.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, hourly position.  The hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, but during customer trips – these hours/days may vary.

Travel
The travel requirements for this position are approximately 70-80%


Required Education and Experience
  • An Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year technical college or 5 years previous experience maintaining equipment or similar and/or experience with following functionalities:
    • Assembly of electrical components
    • Commissioning of pharma or similar machinery
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field on Optima equipment with 175 days/year on site
  • Basic Experience in Freeze Dryer Equipment and practices is ideal.
  • Refrigerant/Mechatronic and/or PLC (Rockwell) experience is preferred
  • Go through Optima recruitment process
  • SAP experience ideal
